The GRE is fast approaching … Or at lot faster than you might think! However, there’s no need to panic if you’re studying with Nova Press’s GRE Prep Course. With specific sections dedicated to each of the three main test areas, you can choose what to work on first and how much review you want to do.
The section dedicated to the GRE writing category is comprehensive. The first subsection focuses on punctuation and grammatical errors that occur commonly. By reviewing the rules and examples given in this subsection, you can reduce your error rate dramatically. It will also help you improve your writing for graduate school, where mistakes can be detrimental to your future. “Punctuation” focuses on the misuse of commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, apostrophes, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. The “Usage” section review pronoun usage, subject-verb agreement, misplaced modifies, faulty parallelism, faulty verb tenses, and idiom usage. These subsections give clear examples of both correct and incorrect usage as well as practice tests to allow you to apply the information reviewed.
The GRE writing section is more than just correct grammar, though. Nova Press’s GRE Prep Course outlines tools you can use to improve your own writing and steps you can take to prepare for the type of writing required on the test. This section of the Prep course gives specific suggestions for improving introductions and conclusions as well as how to develop your own writing style. Whether it’s improving your “transition” vocabulary, learning how to vary your sentence structure, or adding figurative language to your writing, you can find tips here. Additionally, Nova Press provides writing samples that you can review and critique.
This section also includes rubrics for both the argument analysis essay and the one in which you provide your perspective on an issue. It gives you suggestions for how to organize your thoughts during pre-writing, key words to look for when trying to determine the meaning of a prompt, sample essays to read along with critiques of those essays, and sample prompts for you to guide your writing practice.
Don’t walk into the test unprepared for the GRE writing section. Study with Nova Press’s GRE Prep Course, and know what to expect when you walk in on test day.
