ACT Math Prep

April 17, 2025 By novapress

If you’re not a math person, the thought of taking a standardized test can be pretty terrifying.  But don’t freak out!  Nova Press’s ACT Math Prep Course will make sure you have access to everything you need for ACT Math prep.

The ACT tests on all the math skills typically obtained by 11th or 12th grade, which means up through Trigonometry.  The test itself is 60 multiple choice questions with 60 minutes to complete.  The questions are listed in ascending order of difficulty.  Nova Press makes sure you know exactly what to expect.  We enlighten you on the breakdown of the section, how it’s graded, and help you learn tips to improve your score.

As far as the math review itself, the book is structured so that the earliest part does not require much prior knowledge about mathematics.  That way, you can review the most basic concepts before moving on to more complicated topics.  Each topic includes clear explanations with examples, so you can see the information in action.  They also include practice problems so you can apply the information based on that topic on your own.  The answers are given in the very next section, with explanations for why each choice from the multiple choice is right or wrong.  The book ends with a diagnostic/review test so you can prepare for the set-up of the actual test, with all of the topics mixed together.

No need to stress about ACT math prep.  If you are willing to work, Nova Press has the materials you need.  The Nova Press Math Prep Course will make sure you have everything you need to master the ACT math section.

GRE Prep Software

April 17, 2025 By novapress

There are a few different options out there for how to prepare for the GRE:  book, tutoring, some kind of test prep course, or software.  Each way has pros and cons, and it’s up to you to choose the one that works the best for you.  If you’re looking for an affordable software option, though, Nova Press has you covered!  Nova Press’s GRE Software offers a variety of ways to study, whether you want immediate feedback on whether or not an answer was right or if you’d prefer to take the test just the way it will be given.

Nova Press makes sure you have all of the information you need to succeed on the GRE.  The software provides lessons and tips on the math, verbal, and writing sections.  The math section is broken down into seventeen different categories and organized so that you can pick which topic you want to work with.  It outlines what to expect on the test and gives lots of examples with explanations for each topic, so you work to master the concepts.

The reading comprehension section includes techniques on how to approach each reading passage and what to look for in the questions asked.  By learning the six different types of questions asked about a reading passage, you can narrow down the answers right away.  Pivotal words are emphasized so you don’t get fooled by wording on the test.  Finally, Nova Press outlines a three-step method for approaching each reading passage and the questions following it.

Other reading subsections include text completion, vocabulary, and etymology.  The vocabulary list is broken down into two sub-lists:  the 400 most commonly used words on the test.  You get to decide where to spend your time, but the more vocabulary you know, the less of a chance that wording on the test will trip you up.

The writing section provides rubrics, so you know exactly what the test-graders are looking for and can evaluate your own writing with the same criteria.  We include grammar and punctuation reviews as well as tips on how to develop your own writing style.  Writing prompts are provided, some with written responses for you to evaluate while others are for you to practice responding to.

If you’re looking for GRE Prep Software, Nova Press is the way to go.  We provide software with thorough information, structured so that you can focus your studying exactly where you need it.  We also feature flexibility in taking the practice tests, so you can find out immediately after each question whether you got it right or wrong, or you can wait until the end.  Anyway you look at it, Nova Press GRE Software is the best choice for helping you prepare for the GRE.

SAT Prep Books

April 16, 2025 By novapress

Nova Press’s SAT Prep Course is the way to go when looking for SAT prep books.  We give a thorough review of all of the math, reading, and writing topics that you’ll need to know.  If you’re ready to get to work, Nova Press is ready to help.

The reading section focuses on a few main sub-categories:  reading comprehension, sentence completion, critical reasoning, and vocabulary.  The reading comprehension section debunks the myths about commonly recommended reading methods and then outlines some approaches that actually work.  We help you learn how to recognize the six main types of questions asked on the test and then how to narrow down the answer choices to fit each question.  We reinforce pivotal words that could change the entire meaning of the reading material, so you don’t get thrown by the wording.  Finally, a concise method is outlined to help you achieve your best on the actual test.  Practice reading material and questions are given in each section along with answers and explanations.

The writing section first clarifies the format of the test so you know exactly what to expect.  We then review grammar rules and common errors, also looking at ways to vary sentence structure and to help you start to find your writing style.  After a brief section on punctuation, we delve into the actual writing.  There are many sample writing prompts along with guides on how to approach them to understand exactly what they’re asking you to write.  The book includes a rubric so you can evaluate your own writing with the same criteria the test-graders use.  We also outline several basic steps that you can use on test day to structure your essay before you start writing.   Several examples of prompts along with possible responses are included for your evaluation, followed by practice prompts for you to practice your writing.

The math section reviews many different concepts.  Each concept has a dedicated section with rules, examples, and practice problems for you to work through, followed by answers and explanations for you to correct your work.  The end of the chapter contains a diagnostic math test, so you can determine whether you need to revisit any specific concept for further review.

The SAT can be a daunting test to prepare for if you don’t have the right materials to study with.  Choose the Nova Press SAT Prep Course, instead of one of the other SAT Prep Books.  Nova Press will make sure you have all of the information you need so you can work at your own pace and feel confident that you can succeed.

Untitled Verbal Reasoning

April 16, 2025 By novapress

All of the major tests out there (SAT, ACT, MCAT, GMAT, LSAT, GRE) have something in common:  they all have some kind of verbal reasoning section.  Yes, there is the section titled “Verbal Reasoning,” but there is also untitled “verbal reasoning.”  Every section and question on the exams test your understanding of vocabulary, pivotal words, and grammar, in addition to knowledge.  If you don’t understand the question, or the context in which it’s asked, you’ll get the answer wrong.  But don’t freak out!  Whatever untitled verbal reasoning test you’re studying for, Nova Press has a book to help you be prepared!

Nova Press wants to make sure you know what to expect on test day.  The books are arranged to help you know the format of the test, key aspects you will be tested, as well as the more minute details (like examples of how the questions are worded).  Spend time working through the verbal reasoning section of every book and be prepared for whatever the test-writers decide to throw out you.  We have steps outlined to help you know how to identify types of questions in the reading comprehension sections, as well as full-length practice reading samples.  We cover the basics of grammar and punctuation, and we reinforce your understanding of pivotal words and how they effect the meaning of a sentence.  The books devoted to tests which include a vocabulary section (i.e. SAT, ACT, and the GRE) break down the possible words into “most likely” and “other possibilities” so that you can decide how much time to devote to which list.

Working through these “Verbal Reasoning” sections can help you on more than that section of a test.  By studying the vocabulary, you are more likely to get questions right because you’re more likely to know all of the words in the question and all of the words in the possible answers.  By reviewing grammar and punctuation in addition vocabulary, you can improve your writing and work to develop your writing style.  The more exposure you have to different types of writing, the more prepared you’ll be for whatever is thrown at you on test day.

Rely on Nova Press to help you prepare.  Any of our test prep courses will help you feel ready on test day if you are willing to put in the work.  It’s not just about the “Verbal Reasoning” sections …  The whole test can be an untitled verbal reasoning test.  Improve your skills with Nova Press.

LSAT Reading Comprehension Questions

April 14, 2025 By novapress

The LSAT reading comprehension questions can be tricky.  The test-writers pick obscure passages so that they can test your comprehension instead of your knowledge, but, if you study with Nova Press, you’ll be prepared for whatever they may throw at you!

Nova Press’s Master the LSAT breaks down the reading comprehension section into six main ideas: Introduction, Reading Methods, The Six Questions, Pivotal Words, The Three Step Method, and Extra Reading.  Each section brings you one step closer to mastering the LSAT.  The “Introduction” helps you to understand the structure of the LSAT, gives suggestions on what you can expect as far as content on the exam, and some simple hints for avoiding being overwhelmed on test day.  “Reading Methods” debunks the benefits of “speed reading” on the LSAT, as well as other common misconceptions on “best approaches” to the test.

“The Six Questions” is the section that really delves into the content.  It helps you to understand the overarching categories of LSAT reading comprehension questions.  After giving a sample reading excerpt, Nova Press walks you through the questions and how to identify the key aspects of each.  By using a real passage, you can see actual application of the process, instead of learning in abstract.  Then you get a chance to work through a passage on your own.  Hints are available if you need them, along with the answers so you can check yourself.  Lastly, you get chance to test yourself.  A full reading passage with questions is given, giving you a chance to apply everything you learned in the chapter.  Answers and solutions are provided, but they are in the section following, so you can check when you’re ready.

“Pivotal Words” helps you to figure out exactly what is going on in the passages.  Often authors will put in a few key words that could completely change the meaning of the text if misunderstood.  This section outlines exactly what to look for and then gives you practice in identifying them in the reading.  Another full reading passage with questions is also included.

In the “Three-Step Method,” all of the other material you learned is condensed into a technique for you to use on the test.  Combining the material covered previously in the Reading Comprehension chapter, this method streamlines and focuses your reading in order to improve your comprehension.  Once again, you are given a “Mentor Exercise” that walks through the steps with you with a full reading passage.  Then, you are given a full passage with questions to work through on your own.  The last section, “Extra Reading,” does just what its title implies:  gives you extra reading and questions to practice with.

Improve your reading comprehension for the LSAT reading comprehension questions with Nova Press’s Master the LSAT.  You’ll learn what to look for on the test and techniques for how to improve your current reading comprehension levels.  With Nova Press’s help, you can master the LSAT.
