ACT Style Math Questions

February 20, 2021 By novapress

Nova Press’s ACT Math Prep Course contains ACT style math questions.  By practicing with questions in the style asked on the ACT, you can be better prepared on test day and so master the ACT.

The ACT tests all the math skills typically obtained by 11th or 12th grade, which means up through Trigonometry.  The test itself is 60 multiple choice questions with 60 minutes to complete.  The questions are listed in ascending order of difficulty.  Nova Press makes sure you know exactly what to expect.  We enlighten you on the breakdown of the section, how it’s graded, and help you learn tips to improve your score.

As far as the math review itself, the book is structured so that the earliest part does not require much prior knowledge about mathematics.  That way, you can review the most basic concepts before moving on to more complicated topics.  Each topic includes clear explanations with examples, so you can see the information in action.  They also include practice problems so you can apply the information based on that topic on your own.  The answers are given in the very next section, with explanations for why each choice from the multiple choice is right or wrong.  The book ends with a diagnostic/review test so you can prepare for the set-up of the actual test, with all of the topics mixed together.

Don’t stress over finding ACT style math questions.  Study with Nova Press’s ACT Math Prep Course and get everything you need in one place.

ACT Prep Book

February 20, 2021 By novapress

If you’re looking for a great ACT prep book, look no further.  Nova Press’s ACT prep course books have everything you need to get ready for test day.

The ACT tests on all the math skills typically obtained by 11th or 12th grade, which means up through Trigonometry.  The test itself is 60 multiple-choice questions listed in ascending order of difficulty.  Our ACT Math Prep Course give you info on how this section is graded and help you learn tips to improve your score.

The ACT Verbal Prep Course addresses each subsection of the verbal part of the test separately.  The first section addressed is the English test, then reading, then writing, and then vocabulary.  The English section of the test measures your ability to revise and edit a piece of writing, focusing on two main categories of questions: 1) Usage/Mechanics (punctuation, basic grammar, and sentence structure); and 2) Rhetorical Skills (general writing style and organization).  Punctuation review includes commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, apostrophes, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences.  The grammar review includes pronouns, subject-verb agreement, modifiers, parallelism, verb tense, and diction.  The final section, Rhetoric, focuses on style and structure.

The Reading test presents passages on the following subjects: Humanities (music, dance, theater, art, architecture, languages, ethics, literary criticism, and philosophy); Social Studies (sociology, anthropology, history, geography, psychology, political science, and economics); Natural Sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, and other physical sciences); and Prose Fiction (can be taken from a novel or short story, but don’t expect to have read it before).  Our ACT Verbal Prep Course explains why certain reading methods don’t work and then outlines reading strategies that do.  It details the six types of questions present after each reading excerpt and then gives a three-step method to help you improve your reading comprehension.

For the writing portion, you will be given a prompt to which you must respond.  To prepare you for this, we review style and structure as addressed in the English test section of the book and then dive directly into how to improve your writing.  We give specific suggestions on how to approach your response and provide examples of responses for you to critique.  Finally, many prompts are given for you to practice your writing.

Don’t get overwhelmed looking for an ACT prep book.  Nova Press’s ACT prep course books give you everything you need to know for test day.  All you need to do is put in the time to study!

SAT Writing

February 19, 2021 By novapress

Nova Press wants to make sure you are fully prepared for SAT writing.  Our SAT Prep Course, in whichever format you decide to get it, includes a detailed writing section that reviews everything you need to know for the writing section of the SAT.

The writing section first clarifies the format of the test so you know exactly what to expect.  We then review grammar rules and common errors, like pronoun errors, subject-verb agreement, misplaced and redundant modifiers, faulty parallelism, and faulty verb tenses.  Error identification isn’t the main point of writing, though, so we also look at ways to vary sentence structure, improve paragraph structure, and how to use idioms in order to help you start to find your own writing style.

Included in the book is a review of punctuation, just to make sure we’ve covered everything.  Topics include commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, apostrophes, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences.

Finally, we delve into the actual writing.  There are many sample writing prompts along with guides on how to approach them to understand exactly what they’re asking you to write.  The book includes a rubric so you can evaluate your own writing with the same criteria the test-graders use.  We also outline several basic steps that you can use on test day to structure your essay before you begin writing.   Several examples of prompts along with possible responses are included for your evaluation, followed by practice prompts for you to practice your writing.

Nova Press has the materials to help you be prepared for the SAT writing section.  Whether you prefer a printed book, ebook, online course, software or an iPhone or iPad app, our SAT Prep course will help you be prepared on test day.
